Balance & Injury PreventionWe will work with you to eliminate as many risk factors as possible. From improving your balance, to eliminating risk factors in your home, fall prevention is core to our work.
Specialized Home Care will perform an in home safety audit and comprehensive balance assessment to help decrease your risk of falls.
Each year, over 800,000 older adults are hospitalized from fall injuries. These falls are not only scary and impact the patient’s quality of life, they are often costly as well.
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among people aged 65 and older. Approximately 50% of older adults who fall do not discuss the fall and injury with their healthcare provider and this can lead to additional problems and injuries. In fact, many falls are largely preventable with proper screening and treatment of the individual as well as their living environment.
Because of our experience and expertise in home care, we have identified a number of factors that can contribute to falling. We work to mitigate the risk of falling in your home and we examine all possibilities from lower body weakness and difficulties with walking and balance to the use of medicines, such as tranquilizers, sedatives, or antidepressants that your doctor has prescribed.
Specialized Home Care provides both Parkinson’s and Low Vision specialists. In addition and core to our program in fall prevention is examining any possible home hazards or dangers such as broken or uneven steps or uneven carpeting or rugs and clutter that can become a danger.
Most falls are caused by a combination of risk factors. The more risk factors a person has, the greater their chances of falling. Specialized Home Care clinicians perform a comprehensive assessment of your current condition and risks that include:
- Muscular and Skeletal Systems
- Vestibular Systems
- Low Vision
- Sensory, Proprioception (Equilibrium) Assessment to Treatment
- Fear of Falling
- Home Modifications
We will work with you to eliminate as many risk factors as possible. From improving your balance, to eliminating risk factors in your home, fall prevention is core to our work.
The Specialized Home Care team will perform a comprehensive balance assessment to help decrease your risk of falls. Once the assessment is completed, we then tailor a specialized program for each individual patient.
